i'm trying to be brave enough to accept that my ugly awkward years occurred. i think something significant must have happened during that time, something formative that i've just plain forgotten about, since forgetting about those years really might be the easiest way to be a reasonable adult... i had glasses, a perm, and new kids on the block tee shirts tied in a knot at my hip... i used to spend a lot of time trying to look that way too, that's what's really sad- all those hours in the bathroom battling hairspray. oh dear.
You do NOT want me to get started on my awkward years - no braces but teeth badly needing them, a perm (about two years after everyone else got theirs, so mine were TOTALLY out of date by then), glasses, and a diagnosis from the pediatrician that I may have some physical deformity (because I had gotten SO UGLY in a a matter of a couple years) and a bizarre taste in fashion (one of my favorite outfits was a glow in the dark skeleton tshirt over a pair of floral tights).
I was about to suggest that we all post the worst pic of ourselves during our awkward phases...but just thinking about it gives me anxiety.
Um, I mean my Awkward Year photo - not anyone else's. Actually, your Awkward Year photos probably aren't bad, you just think they are. Mine, however, are truly bad.
i'll post a few baby ones again. i think i just posted one for mother's day- i miss my mom a lot. her birthday is coming up in two weeks or so, so perhaps i'll find some cute pics for that. i'll sacrifice and put up some awkward ones too. maybe "the progression of Melissa." it's funny- if you guys only had an awkward year... i think i went from cute kid to weird preteen to early teenage nightmare to over-preened princess to mostly what i look like now- whatever that is. we'll see how brave i feel, and how many of the photos i actually have digital.
I want to throw a costume party where everyone has to dress up exactly as they did in an "awkward year" photo - how fun/funny would that be??? And they have to bring the pic to prove it. In most cases it would not be unlike an 80's themed party, except you have to actually look like your photo - bad hair, big glasses, etc. I think that would be so funny!

Very cute. I especially like the second one :)
Thanks guys!! Someday when I get around to it, I'll post up the ugly/awkward years - which started at around age 7 and lasted well into high school!!

I don't remember the previous baby pics from Kate or Melissa. May we have another?
Ugh, I don't know if I can bear looking at an Awkward Year photo.

What are these "ugly years" you're talking about? I've never experienced them.
very malevolent.... mine are up, allow the laughter about my large pink glasses to begin!
